GETTING TO A FUTURE NOTE

One of the central challenges in making music is getting from the present note to a future note in an emotionally, structurally, and sonically satisfying way. The goal is to get from “the” present note (the note right now) to “a” future note (whose precise position is unspecified). The important future note is not necessarily the note that immediately follows the present one.
