In some ways we were better off lugging a dedicated word processor, audio playback device, calendar, diary, dictionary, and pager around town, than holding a 4.5-inch smartphone connected to the Internet.

Our ancestors may have said the same thing about fire. If they had observed that this civilization-transforming discovery had a tendency to burn down their dwellings and attracted unwanted predators, they would have been right.
